Grid
Project II
The Grid Computing Science Project is focused on establishing a
computing course which encourages the creation of real scientific Grid
applications. Grid computing portals are now commonplace, but are not
utilized because there is a lack of understanding of real applications
that would make Grid useful. The Grid course develops educational materials
demonstrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
applications that have potential for Grid computing solutions. The course
uses a recently developed Grid computing workflow editor called GridNexus
(gridnexus.org) to facilitate constructing and executing geographically
distributed computations that are the basis of Grid computing. The project
is a collaboration involving students from UNC-Wilmington, UNC- Charlotte,
and NC A&T State University. The course is currently targeted towards
junior and senior level undergraduate computer science and engineering
students, but could be assimilated by students in all STEM disciplines.
