Barbara P. Heath, PhD
MANAGING MEMBER AND LEAD CONSULTANT
Barbara Popovec Heath is managing member and lead consultant for East Main Evaluation & Consulting, LLC. She relocated to North Carolina to teach high school after receiving a B.S. in physics from the University of Pittsburgh. Barbara then continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) and North Carolina State University, earning a Master's degree and Ph.D. in science education (physics). Her thesis and dissertation were focused on the development of in-service and pre-service teachers from a constructivist perspective. Barbara served in a postdoctoral position with the chemistry department at UNCW prior to venturing into the educational consulting arena. Barbara lives in the Wilmington area with her husband and three children. They enjoy the many outdoor activities available in Southeastern NC.
J. Anthony Heath, BS
MEMBER AND BUSINESS/FINANCE LEAD
J. Anthony Heath is a member and consultant for EMEC, LLC. Anthony earned a B.S. in Biology from UNCW followed by serving in the Army and NC National Guard as a medic. He returned to UNCW receiving his teaching certification and completing graduate coursework in science education. Anthony's culminating portfolio focused on technology in the inquiry-based science classroom. Prior to joining EMEC in spring 2008, Anthony was employed as a clinical research associate for an international pharmaceutical company headquartered in Wilmington. Anthony lives in the Wilmington area with his wife and three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, farming, boating, CrossFit, and coaching.
Stephanie Simmons, MS
Stephanie Simmons is a Project Coordinator for EMEC. Steph obtained her B.S. in Biology from Wingate University in 2014 while playing collegiate softball. She continued her education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington earning a M.S. in Marine Biology in 2016. Her thesis focused on jellyfish anatomy. During her two years at UNCW, Steph worked as teaching assistant for human anatomy and physiology labs and participated in the Biology Graduate Student Association. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing sports, coaching CrossFit classes, and relaxing on the beach.
PROJECT ASSISTANT I
Erich Carsten is a Project Assistant I for EMEC, focusing primarily on the CyVerse project. He is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in German. In fall 2015, Erich studied abroad in Mannheim, Germany. While there he held a research internship with the Center for European Economic Research. He is an active member of the UNCW chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and a founding member of the Chi Phi Gamma Zeta chapter.
